Have you engaged with ChatGPT or other language models? They've become staples in our daily professional and personal routines. Various industries are immersing themselves in AI to enhance their services. Femtech is no excpetion. In this article, let's explore how and why Femtech, taking Glow as an example, is integrating ChatGPT into its product offerings.
Glow, a Top 3 player in the period & fertility tracking industry, unveiled "GlowGPT" in mid-2023 – a strategic amalgamation of the Glow app and an advanced language model provided by OpenAI, L.L.C. (“OpenAI”). GlowGPT, as an extra product feature, is presently offered within Glow's suite of apps.
What GlowGPT Does?
Real-Time Responses: Similar to the user-friendly ChatGPT, GlowGPT delivers real-time responses to user queries, offering an interactive experience. To enhance GlowGPT's expertise in women’s health, it's plausible that Glow fine-tuned the model on a dataset specifically curated for women’s health.
Suggested Questions Lists: Glow goes beyond the basics, introducing two cool features. One notable addition is a suggested question lists to kickstart your conversation with AI. Delve into Glow's family of four apps, each dedicated to specific aspects of women's health journeys. Picture Glow, honing in on "Get pregnant faster and easier," suggesting questions like "Early symptoms" and "Fertility boosters." On the flip side, Eve by Glow, focusing on "Improve overall wellbeing," recommends topics such as "Boost energy" and "Manage stress." This divergence results in distinctive suggested question lists within the chatbot.
Credibility Boost: For added credibility, GlowGPT appends five references to each response, directing users to relevant website resources.
What GlowGPT Doesn't Do (for now)?
Support Chatbot: GlowGPT functions solely as a language model and doesn't provide support chatbot functionalities, such as guiding users through app features or offering support triage for health issues or symptoms.
Personalization Limitations: While Glow App processes existing user data, GlowGPT doesn't access this data to tailor personalized solutions at present. The information provided by GlowGPT is based on general information and cannot take into account your specific circumstances, health history, or other relevant factors.
Why Did Glow Add GlowGPT?
Let's delve into the benefits for users. From a knowledge transfering standpoint, it's a quick info boost, making users more informed and educated about their health, which will better equip them to make right decisions for their health and wellness. Psychologically, engaging with AI is less intimidating – no judgment, no emotional baggage. It creates a comfortable space, crucial as we navigate discussions around women's health.
Glow benefits significantly too. GlowGPT keeps users engaged, preventing them from navigating away to Google or other search engines. Once users develop a habit of discussing women's health within the app, they're more likely to stay. Plus, it's a data treasure trove for Glow, offering insights into user queries, top-of-the-mind questions, and daily struggles and helping fine-tune app content or introduce new features to meet users' needs in the next product iteration.
What Could Be In The Future for GlowGPT?
Analyzing GlowGPT's YouTube introduction, it's apparent that Glow is positioning GlowGPT as a tool to craft personalized plans using the app's historical data. However, reality doesn't align with this pitch. According to the privacy policy and my limited interactions with GlowGPT, it presently can't access existing app data. This hints at a potential future trajectory for Glow – one where the focus might shift towards providing more personalized responses through the chatbot, leveraging the historical data it has collected about users. The concept sounds promising, but a comprehensive exploration of the technical feasibility and privacy considerations surrounding this direction could warrant a separate, in-depth analysis. If this piques your interest, we can dedicate another article to this topic in the future.
Any Concerns on Data Privacy?
Addressing the elephant in the room - is our data safe? All data we put into the chatbot takes a trip to OpenAI, according to GlowGPT's Disclaimer. “OpenAI may record, process, transmit, and use any such information, including communications”. Glow might use it for their services, and OpenAI might do something with it too. When it comes to sensitive information like women's health data, it's a serious consideration. Perhaps we shouldn't divulge all our health secrets to AI just yet.
